Black Flag

I raise my black flag
Teeth clenched, eyes bloodshot
I shout my war cry,
But the flag hangs limp and dead
Not responding to my fervour
My flag is plain, no symbol
Black as an Arctic winter
Maybe the only symbol
Is the lack thereof
Because there's nothing
And that is me, or what I have become
Nothing... and maybe it was created
So I could see the beauty in something
